Word of the Week: Prophet

Prophets are the men of old who were set apart and called of God to be the men who led Christ's true church on earth. They communicated with Christ and acted as His mouthpiece on earth. And they live today. We read in Hebrews 13:8 that "Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday, and today, and forever," which means that if He had prophets on the earth before, to warn the people and to declare truth,  He has a prophet on the earth today.

There was a time when there wasn't a prophet on the earth, which is a time referred to as the Great Apostasy. No one church had the full truth of Christ's doctrine. Through Joseph Smith, Jr., a prophet of the Lord, Christ's true and complete church was restored, or brought back to the earth. There have been other prophets after him, all remarkable men who communicate with God, our Heavenly Father, and Jesus Christ, our Elder Brother and Savior, to receive direction for the world.

Some of these men have flooded the earth with things of great importance that are preparing the world for the Second Coming of our Savior. Let me show you:

Joseph Smith (prophet from 1830-1844) flooded the earth with the Book of Mormon. He received divine assistance in translating an ancient record of the Americas and distributed thousands of copies of the Book of Mormon around the world.

Spencer W. Kimball (prophet from 1973-1985) flooded the earth with the priesthood. He allowed all men to be able to have that blessing of the priesthood available to them, so long as they are worthy to hold that power.

Gordon B. Hinckley (prophet from 1995-2008) flooded the earth with temples. He arranged for so many to be built, that they now dot the earth. They are easily accessible to most members of the church, which is an incredible blessing!

Thomas S. Monson (prophet from 2008 to present day) flooded the earth with missionaries. One year and one month ago, he was divinely inspired to lower the age of missionary service, which has allowed for thousands more missionaries to preach the gospel to almost every nation in their native tongue.

What an incredible blessing prophets are! They do so much for us, besides flooding the earth. They prophecy of things to come. They counsel us in the ways that the Lord wants and expects us to live our lives. They pray for us, even though they don't know us. Everything they do is in emulation of our Savior Jesus Christ.

"Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets."
         -Amos 3:7
