Word of the Week: Small

"By small and simple things are great things brought to pass" (Alma 37:6). Think of Napolean Bonaparte. He was considered small because he was pretty short, and people still make fun of his size even though he's been dead for a good 200 years. But he is also considered one of the greatest military officials/politicians because of the great impact he had on France. Great big things came about because of the "small" Napolean!

It may be small, but if it's your all, it's enough. Not sure where I heard that, but I absolutely love it. It makes me think of how small I feel next to the world. But then I think about how movements begin, how I can change the world by first changing myself. After that, other people will follow, and even if they don't, they know I've changed. It's a domino effect that's happening all the time.

Small things makes other things look big. A baseball is big compared to a golf ball. Ohio is big compared to New Jersey. Earth is small compared to Jupiter. But without those small things, the "big" things wouldn't seem big anymore. I think it applies to people, too. We often compare ourselves to other people. They seem bigger or better than we do because we make ourselves small. But at the same time we are making ourselves small, other people are looking at us as big. Kind of weird to think about, isn't it? There are people out there who think you are big. Don't let that get to your head, though! In reality, we are all small, but we are all part of a bigger picture that we may never see until it is finished.

This week, let's recognize that we are small, that that is a good thing, that we can bring about great things, that we can change the world by first changing ourselves.
